For increasing workspace
For adding border
Adding canvas to increase workspace
- Open the image file.

- Select Image > Canvas Size from the top menu.

- In this case I want to add a canvas such that after the addition, I will have more workspace.
The image here is 13 x 11 px, say I want to increase the space to 50 x 50 px.
This can be achieved in two ways
- First method is by using the "Relative" option. With this selected, photoshop will add
additional pixels to the dimension.
Immediately after the canvas option pop out, check the "Relative" option.
From here, input the values "37 pixels" for width, and "39 pixels" for height
to make a 50 x 50 px image. (Make sure "pixels" is selected from the drop down menu!)

- The second method is by using the exact image values.
Immediately after the canvas option pops out, uncheck the "Relative" option.
From here, change the width value to "50 pixels" and height value to "50 pixels".
Again, make sure "pixels" is selected from the drop down menu.

- Click "ok" to apply the canvas.
- The image should appeared like this in your photoshop window if you have followed the steps correctly.

Adding canvas as border
- Open the image file.

- Resize the image if applicable. If you use the image provided, it has already been resized to
380 x 285 px.
- Change the color of the background color at the toolbar to the color you want your canvas/border
to be.

- Select Image > Canvas Size from the top menu.

- In this case I want to add a canvas such that after the addition, I will have a 400 x 300 px image.
This can be achieved in two ways
- First method is by using the "Relative" option. With this selected, photoshop will add
additional pixels to the dimension.
Immediately after the canvas option pop out, check the "Relative" option.
From here, input the values "20 pixels" for width and "15 pixels" for height
to make a 400 x 300 px image. (Make sure "pixels" is selected from the drop down menu!)

- The second method is by using the exact image values.
Immediately after the canvas option pops out, uncheck the "Relative" option.
From here, change the width value to "400 pixels" and height value to "300 pixels".
Again, make sure "pixels" is selected from the drop down menu.

- Click "ok" to apply the canvas.
- The image should appeared like this if you have followed the steps correctly.

- Optional: Add captions to photos
- Thicken the image with addition pixel at the bottom. Say additional of 30 pixel to the bottom.
Click on the area the arrow points to in the following picture.

- Follow by your caption by the Typing tool at the toolbar menu
Final results!

Tips
A transparent canvas will be incurred if the image you add canvas on has many layers on it as well as
a transparent background. If you wish to add a colored canvas, flatten the image first from the Layer menu >
Flatten Image.
