As mentioned earlier, I had requested you to look out this space as I find time to update on my observation results.
hee, I guess base on my title you can guess the results of it.
That’s right, I have sort of “pass” it. Well, there is no pass or fail to speak of in the first place. The whole idea of this lesson observation is to give me some constructive feedbacks. Well, let me just roughly talk about what happened.
On wednesday, 30th August I believe, I had a classroom observation arranged with my school HOD science for the lesson planned for a sec 4 express class. This is the lesson I planned and carried out- I had a revision game on the general topic of General Physics (consisting all kinematics/dynamics/work energy power that sort). I prepared a powerpoint game which i am very proud of. I doubt i can give it a name due to my limited vocab, but i would love to, so if you are interested to see my powerpoint game, drop me a msg. Anyway the key thingy of how my powerpoint game appeals is not the usual hyperlinking. Well, if i am to say in exact, its the IT thingy that appeals. I had made an “electronic dice” and “1 min countdown timer” to add fun into the game.
To better appreciate my efforts,
click here for the revision game. I have published on the web but somehow it doesn’t run as smoothly - the countdown timer doesn’t shows itself lol. And due to copyright reasons, i am not posting my whole files up for grabs.
This is how the game works. I have 2 teams: white team vs black team. I made toothpicks flag with black and white tags for them to pick. White team gets a whiteboard to write their answers (and workings if they want); the black team gets a blackboard (absolutely cool with blackboard marker). And then now that the class is evenly splitted. I let them do the scissors paper stone to get to know who started. After which I think the black team started first, and rolled the dice, but they kanna a chance card after rolling - which sadly, had an event which deducted their points
. Then the white team took their turns in rolling the dice. Both teams are given 1 minute to do the question projected but sometime i allowed time extension when both teams can’t get the answer (rules are flexible here oke!). And then since its the white team’s turn, if both teams got the correct answer, black team will get 1 point white white team will score double the points.
My feedbacks were mainly positive. I am happy that my hod science praised my revision game and even proposed that i can share it during meeting. Also, she said she was a little surprised that I looked soft on the outside but yet able to engage my students so much. She can also see the rapport i build with them even though i joined for barely a month. However, she did mentioned something i have realised - there was one student who asked “Why” when i revealed the answer to one of the questions. Thinking that I might have the time to go through the questions, I replied that I will go through the answers later. After a few more rounds, i realised that its better to go through immediately, so after each questions, i explained the concepts and answers. My hod science said it is better to answer their questions when the questions is fresh in mind, she said that she also realised i tried to answer their questions later on which is good. phew, luckily i realised it.. anyway she also mentioned that my class is a small class (i purposely chosen a smaller class for observation since i know all their names.. hehe when they do something funny i will call their names..) well, overall i think is quite good for an untrainned teacher.
Anyway she told me that they have already indicated to MOE that i am suitable for teaching! Which means i have pass my contract ! yay!
oh, i shall blog about my teacher’s day celebration tmr.. tired ah!
