We have to be skeptical when watching movie as not all movies represent the real world. Usually, most scenes from the movies are either far-fetched or nearly impossible to happen, for instance, running on top of waters with qing gong in chinese movies. We know that jumping through the windows might cause some laceration, yet the super heroes in the movies are never hurt by the shards of glasses from windows. Many of us understood that these cannot happen in the real world, but often, our thought processes just stopped here.
Have you ever ask yourself, what laws/theories explain why it cannot happen?
Have you ever notice that there are sound from star war’s loud shootings or space explosion scenes? But we know that sound cannot travel in vacuum…
While browsing journal articles for my physics curriculum assignment, I came across the idea of introducing a project-based movie review base on correct physics or violation of the laws of physics to students as a method to learning and arousing interest in physics. I think it is quite interesting and meaningful as students get to process deep thinking on movie clips and how it is related to physics, formulate hypotheses and proving whether actions/scenes in the movie violates or represent correct physics in the real world. It is a good relation of real world.
While doing a step further in my research, I found a site reviewing movies through a physicist’s eyes, and this site is called Insultingly Stupid Movie Physics. It has quite a good review on movies which violates or follows the law of physics. We know our content well on physics concepts, but rarely apply to the real world around us. This site is a good read of movies that violates the law of physics.
As i mentioned, I think it is meaningful and interesting, so I shall adopt this journal to be reviewed in my physics assignment. Researching for a appropriate journal can be tiring, and so i shall rest for now and work on this topic on another day!
